Kommetjie

Kommetjie hosts a little community lying along the coast of the Cape Peninsula, near Scarborough and Simon's Town. It's rocky, rough and windy terrain, which hosts the Cape's famous indigenous fynbos flora, is reminiscent of scenes from movies like Wuthering Heights - despite the sunny weather. As Heathcliff was passionate about Cathy, so the locals are passionate about environmental issues in their area.

The area is primarily residential, which has curbed the growth of industrial business, but this has preserved much of the original 'lay of the land' in Kommetjie's favour. The area is an environmentalist's dream, with the main draw card being the region's unblemished, raw, natural splendour. It is ideal to visit for a quieter day and perfect for deeply reflective types who can get lost in the glory of nature on a hike, rock climb or day at a nature reserve. The beach is gentle and natural with seaweed strewn across the shore.

Out rides through the area on horseback are available, and there are a few coffee shops and restaurants. Don't forget to take a drive to the mountainside where you'll find the hairier Kommetjie permanent residents, the baboons. They're almost always directing traffic into Kommetjie, and you'll be sure to make their acquaintance. Just be careful, they can bite.

Be sure to catch the view of Noordhoek with Chapman's Peak in the background as you drive into Kommetjie from Cape Point, its no wonder everyone is flocking to stake their plot of paradise in this quaint little coastal village.
