Fish Hoek
Undeniably its most prominent tourist attraction, Fish Hoek Beach
lies just 200 metres away from the main road. Although the area
is often sunny but breezy, the town's holiday resort atmosphere
is vibrant with people staying outdoors most of the time.
The beach is where most of the town's action takes place: local
fisherman can often be seen hauling in the catch of the day, as
there are many popular restaurants nearby; while surfers and water
sports enthusiasts line the horizon. Those who wish to experience
the deeper side of the ocean can go scuba diving or snorkelling
and for adventurous types, Great White sharks breed in the vicinity
and cage diving experiences are available for those that dare.
Peers Cave is testament to the area's rich history where the 12,000
year old Fish Hoek Man's skull was discovered. This natural history
and local flora and wildlife, including African penguins and Cape
baboons, can be seen on guided walks, or even at local rock climbing
spots.
For those who love the sound of their credit card being swiped,
the town hosts many shopping facilities covering a variety of interests:
art and crafts, books, clothing, health food, gardening, computers,
beauty, furniture and many others.
On Sundays the town is popular with Cape Town locals who drive
through the area, stopping off at local art galleries and coffee
shops to absorb the unique atmosphere that Fish Hoek provides. Locals
also use the weekends to walk along the catwalk, ending off with
a beach picnic.
