Cape Town is blessed not only with some of the most beautiful scenery
in the world, but is also well served with a large number of world
class golf courses. The city is a popular destination for golfing
tours and golf centred vacations, Makapa Lodge in Fish Hoek is well
situated for easy access to a number of excellent golfing venues.
Why not make us a base for your own Cape Town golfing safari, below
is our selection of recommended golf courses....
Clovelly Golf Club
Clovelly
Golf Club Fish HoekClovelly has always been one of the most popular
golf clubs in the Western Cape. A robust membership profile ensures
that the club thrives from sporting, competitive, social and financial
perspectives.
Apart from the 105 bowling section members and the 78 tennis section
members, Clovelly has a very strong golf section consisting of some
885 men members and 290 lady members.
The golf course and facilities are consistently rated in the top
fifty in the country by a leading panel of raters utilized in the
annual South African "Compleat Golfer" survey of golf
clubs. Some 58 000 rounds are played on the golf course each year
so it is necessary to plan and book your rounds in advance. Even
though this is a high number of rounds, the course is consistently
in good condition with greens that are respected around the world!
Westlake Golf Club
Westlake
Golf CourseTwenty minutes from the city center on the M3 freeway
(Blue Route), Westlake Golf Club nestles up against the Silvermine
Mountains, overlooking the southern reaches of the Peninsula and
False Bay.
Westlake is recognised as being the best winter course in the Cape,
as when Mother Nature hurls her worst, the gentle sloping topography
allows rainwater to run away. Over the past ten years, there can
only have been a handful of occasions that the course has been closed
- and then it has been because of unceasing rain.
The layout may show few troubles, but when the "Cape Doctor"
- the prevailing summer South-Easterly wind - blows, this benign
course is transformed into one of the most challenging anyone could
hope to encounter.
The course lies between the Silvermine Defence force base and the
suburb of Lakeside. The spirit and friendliness that is immediately
evident to any visitor has seen the club grow from its humble beginnings
in 1932 to now stand proud as one of the foremost clubs in the Western
Cape - and indeed, in South Africa.
